This policy explains how Colin Cunio Solicitors Pty Ltd (ABN 43 611 695 839) trading as Strata Specialist Lawyers ("we", "us") handles personal information, whether collected through this website, by email or telephone, or in the course of providing legal services. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

The personal information we collect will depend on your dealings with us, and may include your name and contact details; the strata, community, precinct or neighbourhood scheme and lot you are connected with; the information and documents you provide in an enquiry or through our online matter forms; information relevant to a matter in which we act; billing and payment records; and technical information generated when you use this website, such as browser and device data.

How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you — through this website's forms, by email, by telephone, and in the course of acting for you — and, where a matter requires it, from third parties and public sources such as NSW Land Registry Services, the records of an owners corporation, strata managing agents, other parties' lawyers, courts and tribunals.

Why we collect it

We collect, hold and use personal information to respond to enquiries; to conduct conflict-of-interest checks; to provide legal services and carry out instructions, including lodging dealings for registration; to issue invoices and maintain our records; to meet our professional and legal obligations; and to operate and improve this website. We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it.

How it is stored

Information and documents submitted through this website are transmitted to and stored on our own Microsoft 365 systems, and are not retained by the website's hosting provider or any third-party form service. Our systems are protected by access controls and other technical safeguards. Cloud services we use, including Microsoft 365, may store data in Australia or overseas in accordance with the provider's arrangements. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information in transit.

Disclosure

We disclose personal information only as reasonably necessary to provide our services or as the law requires or permits — for example, to NSW Land Registry Services in the course of a registration; to barristers, experts and other service providers engaged in a matter; to courts, tribunals and regulators; and to our IT service providers under obligations of confidentiality. Communications between us and our clients may be subject to legal professional privilege, which we take care to preserve.

Access, correction and complaints

You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, by contacting us using the details below. If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please put your complaint to us in writing; we will investigate and respond to you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

This website does not use advertising or retargeting cookies. Standard technical logs are generated by our hosting provider, and fonts are served from third-party servers which may log technical data. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
